Fight to Save Lives, The Aids Orphans Rescue Programme.
Placement description
TAORP is a registered non profit making community based organization in Uganda, with programmes aimed at improving life in communities which are affected by HIV/AIDS.Founded in 2006, and based in Jinja, TAORP brings hope to an increasing number of orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda. You can be part of this humanitarian effort by working with us.
PROGRAMMES
Education for HIV/AIDS orphans
TAORP provides tuition and scholastic materials for the HIV/AIDS orphans we support. As a strategy, we support these children through selected foster families, so they can grow up in a supportive home environment.
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Many youthful victims have no skill at all to enable them earn a living. In order to prevent them from engaging in unlawful ways of earning, TAORP trains them in life skills such as brick laying, carpentry, and tailoring. Women who lost their partners to HIV/AIDS have also greatly benefited from this programme.
INCOME GENERATING PROJECTS
To promote independence among beneficiary orphans, and youths and widows who have attained basic vocational skills, TAORP aims at providing startup loans that will be payable over defined time schedules.
HIV/AIDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
We are involved in campaigns aimed at reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS, as well as lowering the reinfection rates. We do this by educating the communities, and encouraging them to utilize the available health services.
TAORP volunteers and communitybased social workers are given adequate training in community mobilization and VCT skills.
HOME BASED CARE FOR PLWHAs
PLWHA can participate actively in the social and economic aspects of the communities in which they live. This is why TAORP promotes a supportive community environment for PLWHA by improving surveillance, and ensuring timely provision of/access to medical assistance. This has the advantage of improving service utilization and reducing stigma.
With adequate support, TAORP plans to establish functional PLWHA clubs within communities, offer material support to affected families, and build an outreach care center.
