Program description
The Xperiment is an internship held by Rijkswaterstaat - The implementing organization of the dutch ministry of water and infrastructure.The Xperiment is a full time 7 week program on Innovation and sustainability. We are looking for 25 students who would like to explore these themes with us.To take part in the Xperiment you would have to apply to one of the 5 challenges available in the Xperiment (Descriptions of the challenges are available on our web-site). Multidisciplinary teams of 5 student will be put together to handle each challenge, based on skills, diversity and motivation. We will provide each team with a mentor, who is the owner of the challenge and can provide the participants with information, but not dictate what direction they should take. Additionally the teams will receive weekly coaching sessions on the innovation work process, weekly workshops/lectures and coaching sessions on innovation and sustainability in practice and weekly inspiration sessions.The following topics will be explored by all participants:- Innovation - Sustainability- Leadership - Project management(Additional topics will be explored by each team, depending on their challenge and which direction they choose.)If you are a curious mind with strong opinions and the will to make a difference log on to our web-site and send us an application.We are looking forward to hearing from you.Highlights
Some of the big highlights of the program are the great people, who will be sharing their knowledge with the participants.- Morten Bue Pedersen (Practical implementation of innovation and sustainability)- Jan van der Kaj (Sustainability methods and practice)- Richard Gerver (The effect of established systems on our ability to think creatively)- Tony Frost (Natural systems and personal leadership)- Katia Peterson (Conflict resolution)- Corinne Bianca Kristensen (Innovation leadership and work processes)- There may be a few surprises along the way...Equally there will be two big events:- The midway evaluation where participants will present a prototype of their work up to this point and get feedback from a panel of experts.- The Lions Den on the last day of the Xperiment where all the stake-holders of the Xperiment are invited to experience the results of Xperiment 2009 in a show room followed by a presentation to a panel of experts who will give feed back on the concepts and decide weather they will be followed up or not.Every wednesday afternoon consists of an inspirational activity. How can we continue to ensure mobility during a climate crisis? This question is at the core of the challenges that confront Rijkswaterstaat (RWS). To explore new working methods, RWS built LEF Future Center in the heart of the Netherlands. However, building a facility is obviously not enough. RWS needs the help of people who can contribute new and innovative ways of thinking. RWS is especially looking for young people, who have an open mind and fresh ideas about what’s possible. That’s why last year, RWS launched the Xperiment project, a seven-week internship at LEF Future Center. 25 students from a variety of disciplines and countries tackled different challenges and developed creative solutions. In September and October 2009, RWS will once again present five themes relating to sustainability and innovation. Dutch and international students alike are welcome to take up the challenge.Duration
