Adult Courses and Exams

Part-time courses consist of 1 - 14 hours of tuition and full time courses 15 hours of tuition per week, either in group study or on one-to-one basis. Optional lessons of a further 5, 10, or 15 hours per week are also available. Students can start on any Monday or according to agreement. Apart from Business English, all courses cover all levels from beginners to the more advanced. The teaching groups are of a maximum of eight students unless otherwise agreed, so that the teacher-student contact is as great as possible. Homework is set on all courses and students are expected to do it as an essential part of their studies. All aspects of English - reading, speaking, listening and writing - are covered together with studies of English life and institutions. Students are encouraged to improve not only their knowledge of the language but also of the country and its people.

General English

Business English
Ideally, for upper intermediate to advanced students but can easily be modified for groups at other levels, this course integrates the key aspects of grammar and essential vocabulary, current topics and business skills.
All the four language skills are given practice and each unit introduces vocabulary and language most relevant to the field of business, with a special focus on skills based activities such as presentations, negotiations and meetings, where pair and teamwork, and case studies form an essential part of the course.

This course would be beneficial for students already studying business subjects wishing to improve their communication skills in English and extend their knowledge of the real world of business, and also for those already active in the field of business that have a need to use English more effectively in their day-to-day work.

Business English courses are also run all year round and can be of 1 - 52 weeks in length. Knowledge of basic English, at a minimum, is required for these courses.

Teachers of Business English have at least five years experience in managing or running a business.

Language Skills For Teachers
We offer English language courses for foreign teachers throughout the year including the summer holidays. Whether you represent an education department, an individual school or college, and are thinking of organizing an intensive language course for the members of your staff or are a teacher looking for a course for yourself, we would be pleased to help.
We have two programmes to choose from.

- Language skills for teachers, and

- Language skills for teachers with a school placement

There are one and two week options available.

Exam preparation courses and examinations
These courses are also operated throughout the year and they aim at preparing students for Cambridge First, Advanced and Proficiency examinations, I.E.L.T.S. (International English Language Testing System, e.g. for university entrance) tests and TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication). The Cambridge examinations can be taken three times a year, March, June and December. I.E.L.T.S tests are held every month and courses leading to the examinations are usually taken over 1 - 8 weeks, but longer periods are also possible. We are a TOEIC examination centre but utilise other organisers for the other examinations. Please enquire for detailed exam schedules and fees.

Summer Courses - Adults
Summer courses are operated between June and September and are separate from those for under-18s. An extensive social programme is offered on weekday afternoons and/or evenings and Saturdays/Sundays. These courses are specifically designed for students with limited time available and for those who wish to have a fun holiday studying English. The minimum stay recommended is 1 week, but better results can be reached with longer stays.
