Why Canada

Watch bears in their natural surroundings or go clubbing in one of the major cities. Cruise the mountains on snowboard or skis or go rafting in the Canadian Rockies. You can travel or you can relax it’s all up to you!!! Whatever you're into, Canada has a wide range of exciting options for the explorer in you.

Climate and weather in Canada

Canada is often associated with cold weather and snow, but in reality, its climate is as diverse as its landscape. Generally, Canadians enjoy four very distinct seasons, particularly in the more populated regions along the US border. Daytime summer temperatures can rise to 35°C and higher, while lows of -25°C are not uncommon in winter. More moderate temperatures are the norm in spring and fall.

Winters are generally cold with periods of snow, although southern Alberta enjoys the occasional "Chinook", a warm dry wind from the Rocky Mountains that gust through and melts the snow. Winters are mild and wet on the west coast, in cities such as Vancouver and Victoria.

Culture
People
Most of the people in Canada are ethnically British or French, but other people from other European countries are also present and indigenous peoples are the majority in the north. Most Canadians live in cities, and most of the cities are close to the southern border. The largest urban areas are in Québec and Ontario provinces, or central Canada, where some two-thirds of the population lives.

Languages
French and English are the official languages, though English is more widely spoken than French. Canada sees many people immigrating to its land, though this group still remains a minority. The people of Canada are mostly literate and maintain a high standard of living.

Accommodation
We advise you to ask your host-company if they can help you. Companies might have business-connections that can help you out. Besides, the people working for the company can also have personal connections that might be useful.
To rent your own apartment you will probably need to be staying in Canada at least 6 months. You will also need to offer a ‘security deposit’ of 2 weeks or one month’s rent as well as pay one month in advance. It will cost anywhere from $800 a month to $2000 a month for a one bedroom studio apartment. You can look at windows as you walk around the street and call the number advertised in the window. This is very common.

Most students, travelers, friends or people on tight budgets share a house. This means you get your own room but you share the rest of the house including kitchen, bathroom, dining room and living room. This is the best value for money and a great way to meet new people. Rooms can cost anywhere from $450 per month to $1200 per month.

Transportation
Most Canadian cities have public transportation, if only a bus system. Six Canadian cities have rapid transit systems and three have commuter rail systems

Language Courses
Before going to Canada you might want to take some language courses. You could also decide to take an evening course during your internship. Whichever option you choose, we advise you to ask your employer what he can do for you. It is also recommendable to contact the nearest university. Universities always have language courses for their exchange students.
